INDIA BAJA | About the rally
Off-road racing’s biggest name, Dakar, came to India in 2017 through its “Dakar Challenge” label.
India Baja is the official Indian franchise rally of the Dakar, which is globally acknowledged as the toughest motorsport event on this planet. True to its lineage, the 2018 edition of India Baja was an extremely challenging and gruelling affair, setting benchmarks in the highly competitive motorsport space in just its third consecutive year of running.
Held from 17 to 19 August 2018 in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, the cross-country rally ran for over 650 km in just 48 hours! High temperatures, treacherous dune crossings, and fast technical gravel straights posed an exciting challenge to the competitors.
The winner of the India Baja gets a free entry to the Dakar rally as well as to the Merzouga rally in Morocco. The value of this prize is equivalent to a whopping INR 16,00,000 which covers the registration fees for one motorcycle in both the events (the Merzouga 2019 and Dakar 2020 rallies).
The event is the brainchild of Northern Motorsport, the same organisation which successfully brought the national autocross championship to motorsport enthusiasts all over the country, as well as 16 consecutive annual editions of the Maruti Suzuki Desert Storm, in addition to multiple path- breaking concepts in the single stage rally and adventure motoring space.
